11th internal meeting

May 4- 5, 2018 - Gustav-Stresemann-Institut, Bonn

The 11th internal meeting of the Stem Cell Network NRW was held on May 4/5, 2018. During the two-day event, more than 200 scientists came together at summer temperatures and presented their latest results and current developments in stem cell research. All eleven partner locations were represented!

Seven different sessions and a total of 31 talks covered a very broad range of topics. The presentations ranged from basic research to the development of high-throughput methods and clinical applications in humans. For the first time there were also lectures on the ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA) of stem cell research.

The retreat of the Stem Cell Network NRW, which has been established for many years, offers particularly young scientists an excellent platform to present their results to a large audience of renowned scientists. It was pleasing that the participants included students, doctoral candidates, postdocs and professors from all partner locations (Aachen, Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Essen, Cologne, Münster, Rheinbach and Witten/Herdecke) who presented their latest research results for discussion. As in previous years, there was a separate session for the Junior Research Groups of the Stem Cell Network.

Even though this year's retreat was not held as usual in Herne but at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institute in Bonn, it was once again a great success with outstanding lectures and lively participation. An intensive exchange took place during the coffee breaks, which due to the fine weather were held in the garden of the venue and new ideas for interdisciplinary cooperation projects have already emerged. We are looking forward to the first results, which will certainly be presented at the next internal meeting!
