3rd training course for teachers with insights into stem cell research

02/20/2024   News

The first teacher training course organized by the Stem Cell Network NRW in 2024 took place on 19 February. The event on basics of stem cell research was led by Professor Edda Tobiasch, who has been committed to training teachers in NRW on the subject since the initiative began in 2022.

It is often difficult for school teachers to keep up to date with developments in the biomedical field. On the one hand, this is due to the complexity of the subject matter and, on the other, to the rapid advancement of knowledge and thus the relevant research questions. The UniStem Day is already an annual information event for schoolchildren that conveys various aspects of stem cell research in a practical way; a corresponding format for teachers has been lacking until now.

The Stem Cell Network NRW has therefore set itself the goal of offering teachers in North Rhine-Westphalia access to all facets of the topic of stem cells through an advanced training program. The network can build on the first teacher training course in 2022 and would like to further develop and consolidate the offer. The offer is now also listed in the search engine of the NRW Ministry of Education when they are announced (https://suche.lehrerfortbildung.schulministerium.nrw.de/search/start).

Due to the continued high demand for the event and positive feedback in subsequent evaluations with many valuable suggestions from the participating teachers, the offer will be expanded in the future. There will be at least one further training course this year, the announcement will be published on our homepage.
