Dr. Jochen Salber
The Department of Experimental Surgery at the Centre for Clinical Research of the Ruhr University Bochum is the research department of the Surgical University Hospital Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum. The department was founded in March 2018 by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Richard Viebahn, Director of the Surgical University Hospital, and one of his senior physicians Dr. rer. nat. Jochen Salber. The research foci of the AG are largely, but not exclusively, oriented towards the clinical foci of visceral/abdominal surgery, vascular surgery and transplantation surgery. Central research areas concern biomaterial development, tissue engineering, implant infections, foreign body reactions, implant failure, biomaterials-supported stem cell differentiation and immunomodulation. To analyse and optimise the biocompatibility of biomaterials, human tissues are generated using modern 3D biofabrication technologies and microfluidic bioreactors.
