StN Spotlight Series once again with a wide range of specialist presentations

In 2023, the virtual lectures of the StN Spotlight Series were again very well received by stem cell scientists from NRW and beyond.

A Research Spotlight by Ayesha Sen (winner of one of the poster awards at the 11th International Meeting of the Stem Cell Network NRW) on „Mitochondrial DNA integrity defines Muscle Satellite cells determination into Skeletal Muscle fibres“ marked the start of the fourth season of the StN Spotlight Series. The total of eight contributions, including those by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Bloch (German Sport University Cologne) and Dr. Hafiza Alizaryeva (CECAD Cologne), offered the opportunity to exchange views on new publications and (unpublished) research results or to find out more about new institutions and working groups in the network. All talks were received very well and ensued lively discussions between participants from the different fields of expertise.

There was also another contribution from the "Spotlight: External Speakers" category in 2023. Mingxi Weng, PhD (The University of Hong Kong, Center for Translational Stem Cell Biology, Hong Kong SAR, China) offered insights into his research work and gave a talk on “Direct and fast somatic to neural stem cell fate conversion without full epigenetic rejuvenation”. In the coming year, the "StN Spotlight: External Speakers" category will once again provide a platform for exchange with guest scientists or invited speakers from outside the network.

The series will be resumed in early 2024. In addition to contributions from the biomedical field, research spotlights on the ethical, legal and social science aspects of stem cell research are also planned.

All stem cell researchers interested in participating can find out about the dates and topics of future StN Spotlight talks here.
