The allogeneic cord blood bank is storing presently 27.000 cord blood units and provided more than 1300 transplant for patients worldwide. Based on license and accreditations by FACT/NETCORD, NMDP, WMDA the bank is able to transfer therapeutic approaches very fast into the clinic. Actually, main research topics are the better characterization of hematopoietic stem cells. The bank is founding member of NETCORD, the CBA and co-chair (Prof .Dr. Gesine Kögler) of the international FACT /NETCORD committee for quality cord blood standards. A research project granted by the DAAD was the basis for defining the molecular and functional signature of bone and cartilage from stroma cells from cord blood, bone marrow and tissue. The cord blood bank is partner on a present granted BMBF project on isolation and expansion of CD34+ cells for reprogramming towards IPSC.
