Despite difficult conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, eleven institutes at various locations throughout North Rhine-Westphalia participate in the international action day on stem cell research in March 2021.

As they did in the last years, scientists from the Stem Cell Network NRW will offer secondary school students an insight into research practice to deepen their knowledge about stem cell science also on UniStem Day 2021. Due to the current situation, additional demands such as developing an appropriate hygiene concept, adapting the offers to smaller group sizes, or preparing an online lecture are placed on the eleven participating institutes. Nonetheless, students will be offered interesting impressions of biomedical science as well as ethical aspects of stem cell research. In addition to on-site events for small groups of students, virtual events will be offered for the first time in 2021. Some of these virtual events will even be tailor-made to fit the questions that the participants have handed in before. UniStem Day 2021 is met with great interest. 250 senior class students from 16 cities all over North Rhine-Westphalia have already registered. Advanced biology classes, individual students, but also small groups will participate. A major part of the offers for UniStem Day 2021 is already fully booked and there are only a few places left – an overview of the contents of the offers can be found here.

We would like to thank all participating institutes and scientists for their commitment and are looking forward to a successful UniStem Day on March 5, 2021.
