Targeted support prepares young scientists for the next steps in their careers

For the third time, the Stem Cell Network NRW is offering a leadership training program specially designed for postdocs and group leaders.

Oftentimes, young scientists are not adequately prepared to face the demands of their next career stage. Setting up their own research group and taking on management tasks demands new skills and can cause a lot of pressure. In order to provide young stem cell researchers with adequate tools for dealing with these various challenges, the Stem Cell Network NRW initiated a leadership development program in 2020. Due to the positive response and great interest, the three-part workshop series will be on offer again this year.

The program is specifically aimed at postdocs, group leaders and junior professors (or similar positions) who are working on a stem cell related topic in North Rhine-Westphalia. Researchers addressing ethical, legal or social aspects of stem cell research are also invited to participate. The workshop series is led by a professional coach with a long-lasting track record in leadership training. A noteworthy aspect is that the workshops will also help the participants to get in touch with other stem cell scientists in NRW who are dealing with similar situations.

The leadership training series consists of a two-day workshop and two follow-up workshops (one day each), which will be held as personal meetings in a small group. Should the pandemic situation worsen again, a conversion into online events is also possible.

The participation fee for the complete workshop series is only 200 Euros.

The next workshop series will be held on October 12-13, November 14, and December 7, 2022 in Cologne and Düsseldorf. The exact seminar locations are yet to be announced.
