Statements on COVID-19 and stem cells
Due to the current spread of the novel coronavirus, scientists all over the world are conducting research to find possible treatment options and to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. Unfortunately, in the last days and weeks we noted that “fake news” about treatments for COVID-19 using stem cells are increasingly being circulated. The Stem Cell Network NRW would like to explicitly state that there is currently no approved stem cell-based treatment available and to strongly discourage you from taking up such unproven offers. Internationally renowned scientific networks have already issued statements to which we would like to draw your attention:
- ISCT Releases Statement on Unproven Stem Cell Treatments for COVID-19
- ISSCR Statement Regarding the Marketing of Unproven Stem Cell Treatments for COVID-19
- EuroStemCells: Stem Cells and COVID-19
- Stem Cell Network Warns that Claims of Stem Cell Treatments for COVID-19 Are Unfounded and Misleading
If you or your family and friends are affected, please be sure to get in contact with healthcare professionals for the latest information on treatment options for COVID-19.
