Continued positive response to the “StN Spotlight Series”

This year, the virtual StN Spotlight talks were again very popular with stem cell scientists from NRW and beyond.

At the end of January, the StN Spotlight Series started its third season. In the course of the year there were 20 talks amongst others by Bastian Nießing (Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT Aachen), Dr. Leo Kurian (University of Cologne) or Sara Wickström, MD, PhD (Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine Münster). All talks were received very well and ensued lively discussions between participants from the different fields of expertise.

In addition to contributions from the biomedical field, a research Spotlight with Dr. Alina Omerbasic-Schiliro (Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf) once again addressed the ethical, legal and sociological aspects of stem cell research. Further Spotlight talks from the ELSA area are planned for 2023.

With more than 50 participants and a lively discussion afterwards, the Research Spotlight by Dr. Julia Tigges (IUF – Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine Düsseldorf) on “Quality Control of Stem Cells in an Academic Environment” was one of the highlights among this year's talks.

There was also another contribution from the "Spotlight: External Speakers" category in 2022. Ashutosh Dhingra (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Tübingen) offered insights into his recently published research on “Drug screen in iPSC-Neurons identifies nucleoside analogs as inhibitors of (G4C2)n expression in C9orf72 ALS/FTD”. In the coming year, the "StN Spotlight: External Speakers" category shall once again provide a platform for exchange with guest scientists or invited speakers from outside the network.

Due to the great response and positive feedback, the series will be resumed in 2023. Every interested stem cell scientist is welcome to join! The registration link (participation is for free!) and a short abstract of the respective spotlight talk will be provided by email in the week before the event.

All stem cell researchers interested in participating can find out about the dates and topics of future StN Spotlight talks here.
