„Connecting Stem Cell Scientists in NRW“ – the motto of our new virtual exchange format

The Spotlight Series first started with an open exchange about the current situation and lectures on research approaches related to COVID-19 like for example unproven stem cell therapies for COVID-19 or the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19 with convalescent plasma. In the meantime, however, it has developed into a regular exchange within the Stem Cell Network NRW and comprises four different categories:

• StN Spotlight: Research
• StN Spotlight: Members
• StN Spotlight: External Speakers
• StN Spotlight: COVID-19 Stammtisch

Within the framework of "Spotlight Research", new publications and unpublished results can be presented, methods or approaches can be discussed. The „Spotlight Members“ category provides an insight into the profile of member institutions and working groups that have recently joined the network. Moreover, the Spotlight Series is also intended to provide a platform for guest scientists who are visiting research groups from the network and to facilitate their exchange with other groups in North-Rhine-Westphalia. The category “Spotlight - External Speakers” serves this purpose. On July 2^nd Dr. David Nelles who is currently doing a sabbatical in the lab of Leo Kurian at the University of Cologne will give a talk on “RNA-targeting Cas9 Corrects Molecular and Physiological Features of Myotonic Dystrophy Type I”. He will also share his experience on successfully founding a company.

Each Spotlight talk starts with a lecture after which the speaker is available for questions. Afterwards there is room for further questions and exciting discussions. So far, the new offer to network and exchange is met with great approval among the stem cell scientists in NRW.

The talks are given in English language as video conferences and do not require prior registration. Every interested stem cell scientist in NRW is invited to join! Usually the Spotlights talks take place every 2nd Thursday from 2-3 pm. Here you will find further information about the topics and dates of upcoming talks.
