NRW-Returnees: Junior research group at the Bonn Institute for Reconstructive Neurobiology
Ms. Sandra Blaess has decided to make the Bonn Institute for Reconstructive Neurobiology her new home since becoming a successful candidate in the NRW repatriation program.
The 33 year old can further her work on neuro development biology with her own team. The NRW Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology will provide 1.25 Mio. Euro in funding over the next 5 years. Ms. Blaess worked at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the USA after a research period at Basel University. She, therefore, fulfils the requirements of the returning program, which is a research period of not less than 2 years abroad. Now she establishes her group at the brain research centre LIFE & BRAIN in Bonn in the environment of the stem cell researcher Oliver Bruestle.
The goal of this program is to attract excellent German junior researchers, which have spent their first post-doctoral experience in international renowned laboratories, back to north rhine-westphalian universities. The second round of the repatriation program, this year focused on the topic of nanotechnologies, is already being heralded. Further information on how to apply can be found at
